Their adverts used to be hilarious:
Their modern adverts just don't have the same class since they changed the name from Carling Black Label to just Carling.

Back in the late 70's early 80's my late father-in-law (who could afford the best but was, shall we say, frugal), used to send me across the border to NY to buy Carling by the case.
Not bad, but not great beer.

the 12-pack I bought the other night was bought under duress. It was almost too late to buy beer, and I popped into a little convenience store. i guess light beers are big sellers because about all they had was bud light, miller light, yuengling light, light this that and the other. The Black label was one of the few 'regular' beers they had, and the rest is history

I didn't realise it was an international brand until I saw this thread. Over here Carling is marketed as being British, the stuff on sale here is made in a brewery in Britain. www.carling.com/

Carling had a hell of a deal with the Pentagon in 1969. The brewery sold out dated beer to the U.S.Navy commissary and by the time it reached Vietnam the cans were rusty and many were leaking with the contents flat. It was served luke warm and flat. The first 2 cans each night (when in the rear) were free, additional cans were 10c, sold as is, take it or leave it. You couldn't give me a Carling Black Label beer today.
But what happened to Falstaff?
That's O'Reilly Sr for sure.
