we have a pair of hawks in the forest that come into the yard alot & the birdies don't mind. in fact the bluejays harrass them but they ignore alot. the squirrals however swear up a storm. tutt tutt. been trying to catch them on camera but alas at least i got a feather that i saw drift down... gotta be at least 15/16 "

BUT there was also a turkey vulture i saw circling just b4 i saw one of the hawks... so i google primary feather for that & lo & behold- that's what it is. god they are ugly birds- but HUGE.

i looked at the link D. & funny, another feather i have that i always thought was wild turkey is actually a red shoulder hawk feather which is the kind of hawks i have i think. BUT there was also a turkey vulture i saw circling just b4 i saw one of the hawks... so i google primary feather for that & lo & behold- that's what it is. god they are ugly birds- but HUGE. They are ugly all right. I had a flock of them that stayed in the huge cottonwood trees during the late spring thru fall at my last house. They are master of soaring though, love to watch them circle and climb the air currents..
