any fans of Formula One Motor racing ? Love it like I do American football. Couldn't tell you much about the teams, drivers or sponsors but as a fan of precision hardware, what's not to like? Have attended multiple Long Beach and Del Mar Grand Prix events. Street racing at it's most exciting. Given your proximity to the heart of the sport, it's a good guess you've seen your share of races.

I was a big fan of the Williams team in the 1990's when Alain Prost & Nigel Mansell and then Damon Hill used to drive for them. They produced the most advanced racing car there has ever been, the FW15c which had traction control, a computer controlled automatic suspension and an automatic gearbox so smooth you couldn't hear the changes.
It was so far in advanced of anything else that it's technologies were banned at the end of the 1993 season.

The driving perspective from that fantastic piece of engineering reminds me of an episode of Top Gear where I first learned of the Ariel Atom built in your lovely country. To pilot an open wheeled vehicle is one of those bucket list things. Just gotta do it.

Get rid of all the gadgets, including automatic transmissions, and let real driving talent come through.

They did get rid of all the gadgets, starting in the 1994 season, there were two fatalities at Imola, Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna. Personally I wonder if those fatalities happened if the cars had still had traction control ?

That's the problem with F1 these days. Senna didn't die because he didn't have traction control. There was an over reaction after his death also which took away from the sport. They tried to sanatize the sport which led to boring, unwatchable races that continue today. They took a great track like Silverstone and turn it into an average one and they almost did it to Spa also until someone came to their senses and restored Eau Rouge. Currently though I was talking about DRS and my main complaint these days is the automatic transmission. I can't stand it. It takes more effort and talent to drive with one hand a shift with another. They've greatly reduced the possiblilty of driver error leading to possibly losing a race. Or nursing a car home if you're having a transmission problem. My point is, today, more than ever, the best car wins not the best driver. Do you think todays drivers could drive a car like Senna's driving here with the ease he's showing?

Ayrton Senna often took cars right up to the very limits of their capabilities and sometimes but not often, had crashes from taking them beyond. The steering column on the Williams he was driving had sheared, if it sheared before his crash there was nothing traction control could have done to help give him back control of the car.
He was a brilliant driver, that footage you've posted is fantastic. I watched those races when I was a kid, seeing him go around Monaco with one hand on the steering wheel, the other on the gear stick. Modern F1 would benefit from going back to manual transmissions, it makes the driving far more interesting.

Sebastian Vettel has been amazing this season, he's been getting better and better for years, personally I'd like to see Jensen Button get some big wins again.

I honestly didn't know what that was. Sam Hill is an American English slang phrase, a euphemism or minced oath for "the devil" or "hell" personified (as in, "What in the Sam Hill is that?"). Etymologist Michael Quinion and others date the expression back to the late 1830s;[1][2] they and others[3] consider the expression to have been a simple bowdlerization, with, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, an unknown origin. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Hill_%28euphemism%29
