As Pot Smoking Rises, So Do Addiction Concerns
Sep 03, 2014 Beth Greenfield
With medical marijuana use now legalized in nearly half the states in the U.S. — and recreational toking so far allowed in both Colorado and Washington — comes a growing buzz of concern about what more pot smoking might mean for the health of society at large. This week has already brought worry over the possibility of more traffic fatalities, with researchers divided on how the drug may or may not affect one’s driving skills. And now comes a small but striking study of marijuana’s addictive qualities and teens, released Tuesday: It found that 40 percent of those in an outpatient treatment program for pot use exhibited withdrawal symptoms — a hallmark of drug dependence.
“There’s a lot of misperception out there that marijuana is not addictive,” lead researcher John Kelly, PhD, of the Massachusetts General Hospital Center for Addiction Medicine, told Yahoo Health. “But it produces both a physical and psychological dependence in a similar way to that of other drugs, along with its own characteristic withdrawal symptoms.” Though the most general hint of addiction tends to be the psychological craving for more, he said, it’s one that’s caused by the physical, neurobiological change in the brain as it becomes accustomed to the presence of the drug.

Guaranteed Liberal Rebuttals;
1) John Kelly, PhD is an uneducated, scientific illiterate. 2) Massachusetts General Hospital Center for Addiction Medicine is "biased" and against the Legalization of Pot. 3) This Study does not have a 98% Peer-Reviewed Scientific Consensus. 4) John Kelly, PhD and the Massachusetts General Hospital Center for Addiction Medicine are "Tea Party Republicans" who want to Impose Their Obvious & Destructive Morality. 5) John Kelly, PhD and the Massachusetts General Hospital Center for Addiction Medicine do not understand that "being stoned" is the key to successful relationships.

“What we know with alcohol and tobacco will be true with any drug: Make it cheaper and more accessible and consumption goes up. Do we want to introduce another drug with potentially negative social and health effects? Do the benefits outweigh the costs? The debate needs to be fully informed, and we need the clinical side saying, ‘This is not a benign substance. It’s not cornflakes.’ The neurocognitive impacts, especially with teens, have been shown to have lifelong implications.” Legalization of marijuana, he noted, is sure to bring millions of new cases of addiction. “The rates of addiction and harm will go up, there’s no doubt about it,” he said. “People need to be prepared for that.”

Now folks, Modern Day Liberals will likely vomit their Arrogance and Condescension in this thread as well as they proclaim they have "no" addiction problems with their drug of choice; Pot.
Yet the very passion and vigor they demonstrate in their quest to "legalize it" paints a far different picture.
Once again, Modern Day Liberals are the one's living a life of Lies and Deceit. They then accuse everyone else of being Liars and Deceivers.
Modern Day Liberals, ALWAYS guilty of EVERYTHING they accuse others of.

I'd rather have a nice Malbec. If you asked me to give that up I would hit you with my shoe. What's a Malbec? Malbec is a purple grape variety used in making red wine. The grapes tend to have an inky dark color and robust tannins, and are known as one of the six grapes allowed in the blend of red Bordeaux wine. copied and pasted by me.

ROTFLMAO... 127 kids between the ages of 14-19 does not make pot physically addictive. It makes the study way to small to have any significance. Further, the 'addictive' qualities of pot seem the exclusive domain of the very young... which is why he didn't test anyone in their 30s or 40s.

Lmao Here's a thought: the kids with the "cravings" developed a habit of "craving" from the craving of snacks and sweets while smoking pot. And teens love to eat, so just maybe they had indulged their pot-induced "food craving"enough times that they had lost some of their self-control around snacking. Anyone who has raised a teen knows that they often crave snacks. Remember them cleaning out your refrigerator and pantry? I didn't see that tested for in the little "study."

I have to admit, I'm somewhat amazed by someone who think a study done just on a child's brain brings some kind of clarity to the question. Had the study been about alcohol in the 14-19 age bracket, the results would have been very similar and the impact on the kids much worse. And that's what happens when you set up a study to produce a specific result instead of creating a study and examining the results. In fact, the same National Institute of Alcohol Abuse, the sponsors of the study, reports an even worse impact for underage drinkers.
