The Bush years changed everything in this country. I'm afraid we won't know the extent of the destruction of our freedoms for many years to come. Dubya was worse that Hitler in my opinion. Thanks for that story.
God help us.

If Bush was worse than Hitler and Obama is continuously expanding Bush's agenda, then Obama is treading into uncharted authoritarian territory.

A real American President should do everything he can to relinquish all powers not granted to the Executive branch (Article II) and make sure these powers will never again be available to any successor. So if the next President is not willing to do that, expect the same and likely worse.

Thanks for that story. God help us. In the event you didn't explore the nooks and crannies of that substantial article, there is PLENTY of lost liberty, freedom and privacy resulting the tragic election(s) of the current pResident. In the event you did explore - by all means, ignore the present and continue looking backwards.

He is, but I don't think Obama would have taken the steps Dubya and Cheney did. He should have changed things back to where they were but he didn't. Power corrupts. Bush let the genie out of the bottle. Once the genie is out it's hard to put back in. Funny how Obama was going to change the law about drone strikes in case Romney were to be elected. A little hypocritical of him IMO. But lets lay the blame about freedoms eroded in the right direction, at repugs.

Well, okay, we Republicans let you have your messiah. The economy's in the toilet, every economic indicator has gone off the scale so nobody's really sure just how bad it really is. The world thinks we're a bunch of pu$$ies who talk a good game but when the chips are down we won't protect our allies, come to their aid, or even wish them well and send 'em some post-coup flowers. Even Carter took in the Shah and dealt with the consequences - Obama won't even help a bunch of students who try and overthrow the current oppressive, fanatical, millenarian regime in Iran and instead have helped to install a Sunni version of the same Happy Horses**t Khomeni did in Iran - governments that deliberately include people who admitted that they planted and detonated IEDs that have killed and wounded our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. This guy now subverts the constitution, legislating through executive order, he has NO respect for the constitution, no respect for the national currency, no respect for the 4th amendment (with probes set up to monitor every aspect of your life), and a philosophy paralleling that of King Louis XIV:"After Me, the flood!" Happy now?

Happy now? You should pick up a newspaper sometime and read it. You might learn something.
