Police have arrested a retired chemist from Connecticut after he allegedly admitted he was planning to blow up Keith Richards, the guitarist for the Rolling Stones, and apparently had a stockpile of explosives in his home.
Police responded to the home of Joseph Callahan, 69, in recent days due to a worried telephone call from his ex-wife, who said she hadn’t been able to contact him for days, The Daily Mail reported.
At his home — a $1 million mansion located near Mr. Richards‘ adobe — police found a massive weapons arsenal that included 273 guns, ammunition and homemade bombs.
The Fairfield Citizen reported that Mr. Callahan allegedly told police the bombs were intended for Mr. Richards. Mr. Callahan lives in Greenfield Hill, Conn., 10 miles from Mr. Richards‘ Weston home.
Mr. Callahan said during police questioning that he had ammonium nitrate because “that’s the chemical used in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing,” The Daily Mail reported.
Mr. Callahan — who says on his LinkedIn page that he’s the president of the chemical company, Remair — was charged with 11 counts of illegal possession of explosives, six counts of first-degree reckless endangerment and one count of manufacturing bombs.
It’s not clear from the media report what Mr. Callahan had against the Rolling Stones’ guitarist, or why he allegedly targeted Mr. Richards.

In 2008, it was revealed that members of the Hells Angels had plotted to murder Jagger in 1975. They were angered by Jagger's public blaming of the Hells Angels, who had been hired to provide security at the Altamont Free Concert in December 1969, for much of the crowd violence at the event. The conspirators reportedly used a boat to approach a residence where Jagger was staying on Long Island, New York; the plot failed when the boat was nearly sunk by a storm.[62]
