I just heard they are proposing a runner that lowers his helmet will be penalized. Sounds lame. Every running back does that.

Goodell is just looking for more $$$ in fines. Could care less about head injuries.

What the hell is a RB supposed to do when he's about to get hit...stand up straight & get his ribs caved in?

Possibly the single dumbest NFL rule proposal I have ever heard made.

The rule only applies outside of the tackle box, but it's still a bad rule. Emmitt Smith has pointed out that RB are going to get their heads taken off with this rule. Luckily, it doesn't appear it will get the votes it needs from the owners to become a rule.

Sounds like a ridiculous proposal to me.

Well it was approved. But there is a bit of logic to it. It only applies in the open field, that is outside the tackle box. It will yield a 15 yd penalty but incidental contact will not apply. I don't agree with it because it will negate a lot of running plays but it is what it is. We will certainly find out how this plays out and I'm sure there will be adjustments after this season if it causes a lot of problems. www.nflevolution.com/article/NFL-owners-approve-crown-of-helmet-rule-change?ref=7317

I can't believe the owners approved it. This will become a nightmare next season as the application is sorted out.

I can't believe the owners approved it. This will become a nightmare next season as the application is sorted out. Will probably come in under "judgement call" & non reviewable. Some players will get away with it while others get flagged every time. I can see a lot of tempers flaring over this one.

I've always wondered why they wear helmets. Rugby players don't usually wear helmets although some wear scrum caps to protect themselves from getting Cauliflower ears.
