When mass protests occurred in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, and were violently put down, the west, including the USA seems to have turned a blind eye. Britain is still selling arms under the Al Yamamah agreement whilst innocents are suffering. www.hrw.org/middle-eastn-africa/saudi-arabiaIn 2001 the gulf state refused to acknowledge that it had a domestic terrorism problem, and after the bombing of a supermarket frequented by ex pats by Al Qaeda aligned militants that killed British ex pat Christopher Rodway, ex pats Sandy Mitchell, Les Walker, Ron Jones, Mike Sedlak, Raf Schyvens, and Bill Sampson were framed, arrested, tortured and sentenced to death. Massive international pressure, not least from Amnesty International had the men freed and repatriated home.
