I saw one at Finningley Airshow in 1992, barrels on it's gun were so big I could have put my fist down it. A truly terrifying machine to be on the wrong side of.

Obviously designed by Dr. Evil! :-) In this video, they describe the cannon: 19 feet long. 4,000 lbs. The plane is built around the gun. The cockpit and hydraulics and surrounded with 1,200 lbs of titanium making it nearly bullet proof.

In the 1991 Gulf War two FV510 Warrior APC's were destroyed by an A10 in a so called 'friendly fire' incident. The A10's had strayed into a sector that they should not have been in and the APC's were displaying friendly signs.
To the best of my knowledge neither of the Pilots were court martialed.

Wish I was more educated in this area. 6 crew members lost I take it. Tragic and shameful loss. For what it's worth, sincere condolences to the surviving families.

Nine servicemen died a further 11 were injured. I must make a slight correction to the above post though, 2 A10's attacked and destroyed the 2 Warrior APC's. The inquest returned a verdict of unlawful killing.
