And (unnamed) NFL execs say this: "His biggest problem is that he doesn't know what he doesn't know," said a league executive, who spent extensive time assessing Smith before the draft. "I'm not sure he knows how to take instruction because he pretty much wouldn't listen or talk to our coaches … he's talented. He can sling it, he can fit it into tight spots, he can do a lot of things and I think he wants to be good. But you can't tell him anything right now. He's tuned out because he thinks he's got it all down." "He doesn't have much presence, not much of a leader," said another league executive, who spent a great deal of time studying Smith before the draft. "I don't think he's a bad person, but that's not enough to be a quarterback in this league." Two sources indicated that when Smith went on some visits to teams, rather than interact with coaches and front-office people, he would spend much of his time on his cell phone. Instead of being engaged with team officials, he would be texting friends or reading Twitter or a number of other distracting activities. "All these other players who were in there were talking to the coaches, trying to get to know people and he was over there by himself," one of the sources said. "That's not what you want out of your quarterback." Like I said - this guy is going to be a PERFECT Jet. sports.yahoo.com/news/nfl--geno-smith-s-firing-of-agents--pre-draft-actions-shed-light-on-why-qb-dropped-183846651.html

Whether any of it is true or not, we'll certainly find out. If it is true, that isn't exactly going to work out real well with Rex Ryan. The Jets certainly have had their share of garbage draft picks in the past. I hope that's not just another one of their wasted picks. Either way, if the Jets have anything better than a losing season, I'll be surprised.

the playoffs were a gift... the broncos were 8-8. and I trust John Elway to make better decisions than Tim Tebow No doubt, but what were the Broncos when Tebow took over? They were 1-4. Tebow not only turned them around, he took them to the playoffs. Gift or not, he got them there. You can't blame him for that. I don't blame him, but I don't give him tens of millions in credit either. Looking at Mannings success, one could reasonably argue that with a journeyman qb, they're better than 8-8. even a blind hog finds an acorn. you're right, it wasn't a fluke. it was divine intervention and vegas is pissed. Elway knows football, and he knew that tebow was not a long term solution... tebows mechanics are bad, and lots of coaching didn't improve them... he's a one dimensional player, as opposed to, for instance, the 9ers Kaepernick, who's got tebow's running ability AND a gun. clearly we agree on the jets organization. I disagree that tebow is a winner. if he was a winner he'd have been a positive locker room influence, and he wasn't. he's an athlete who never learned how to lead, and certainly thought so much about his skills that he didn't think he needed coaching...

Lots of posts over a QB that wasn't even that good in college, except he really didn't have to be a QB there, now did he? Any NFL coach with a brain would've made him a TE, where he stood a decent chance to succeed.

Any NFL coach with a brain would've made him a TE, where he stood a decent chance to succeed. Won a Heisman, won two national titles (one as starting QB), second-most accurate passer in NCAA history, 3rd in career yards per attempt, held 5 NCAA and 14 SEC records when he graduated, only three-time recipient of the Florida Gators MVP award, and his overall record as a starter at Florida was 48 -7. Wasn't that good in college? Yeah, right!
