You aren't alone. The old floor mounted switches rarely failed. If they did fail they were easily and cheaply replaced.

Some multi function switches can be repaired but the dealers don't want you to know that. The individual parts to repair such conglomerations are not available to the public. Only entire mechanisms are sold. In house warranty repairs of multi function switches is done using only the individual components which might be just a couple of dollars. Some of the Ford dimmers can be repaired by merely getting a dab of white grease in the proper place.
