I fought traffic in Oakland California for 2 years but finally packed it in. It was better to work 12 hours than to work 8 and spend 4 hours each day driving 13 miles to and from work. My last 20 years working required less than 10 minutes to commute each way at the busiest part of the day when there were sometimes 5 cars ahead of me at busy intersections. Mayberry II has its high points.

yep I've driven in ATL, NYC and Oakland, San Fran and Los Angeles traffic, and they all have their particular challenges, and all are a beeotch
I was in a rental vehicle headed west on the LIE a few years ago, about 8am, and the very expensive borrowed GPS I had with me began to scream at me to get off the next exit, which I knew to be incorrect. As I approached the exit, I discovered that the hwy was totally blocked (big crash) so I jerked the wheel, exited, and the GPS had me do a quick 3-minute detour around the crash, and when I re-entered the LIE I looked in the rear view and the mess was directly behind me and I was rolling at 70mph+ again. i was impressed.
My celebration was short-lived as I approached the city LOL

I visited a show at the convention center a few years ago and made the mistake of renting a car rather than taking the train. We spent TWO HOURS within view of the convention center without being able to make it there.

nice experience with one of those stupid effing "under paid" fast food workers a couple days ago: at drive-thru I ordered a sandwich combo and said "everything on the sandwich except onion and mustard". The poor thing said "well it comes with lettuce, tomato, pickles, etc etc etc. I repeated "everything except onion and mustard". She evidently thought I meant every GD condiment in the store, so she asked me if I wanted bacon, BBQ sauce, honey mustard, mushrooms, all three cheeses etc etc etc. I drove off and went next door. Bless her heart
