Finally, we beat our nemesis. With Portugal next after their 4-0 humiliation, we have a great chance. We can't defend for 89 minutes after the fastest goal in US World Cup history, Clint Dempsey at the 34 second mark. That tactic has to change if we have any chance with Portugal and especially Germany. For now, savor a well deserved 3 points.
Oh and John Brooks scored at the 86th minute mark after Ghana tied it up in the 82nd minute. What a game.

Pretty good game and a huge win for the US, but you are exactly right about defending for 89 minutes. Portugal looked less than stellar against Germany so I think we have a shot, but I'm not so sure about Germany. Maybe it's the US and Germany that advance.

The good news about Portugal, they could have lost as many as 3 starters for the US game. The bad news? They're going to be hungry and they still have Christiano Ronaldo, an individual scoring machine. We're going to have to defend for long stretches once again and hope we can score on set pieces. It's not pretty soccer but it can work. A win means we're through to the next round even before the Germany game. A tie and we're probably through also because of goal difference. I'm assuming Germany will beat Ghana and Portugal will not make up a 5 goal deficit even if they beat Ghana and we lose to Germany by no more than 1 or 2 goals. A loss and we could still be out because we would need a good result vs Germany and that's very unlikely to happen.
