Yesterday, the weather here was overcast and dull, I faced a choice, up round and down by either winch or Aerotow, or a more satisfying flight in this 1977 (ex RAF) Slingsby T61F Venture Self Launching Motor Glider: Agreed to split the cost with the CFI and up we went. This is Drax Power station, it's the largest coal fired Power Station in Europe. River Humber and Humber suspension bridge, 30 years ago this was the largest single span suspension bridge in the world. Hornsea Mere, the largest lake in Yorkshire. From here we turned north up towards Bridlington and Flamborough Head: I wanted to go further and go up to photograph the Bempton Cliffs, however a parachute drop zone was in the way and a fairly lengthy detour would have been required @ £1.10 per minute, so we turned back and made for home.

Cheers man. My family used to have a static caravan at Bempton when I was a kid, the Cliffs are an RSPB nature reserve, home to at least 200,000 sea birds. I can still remember my Mum getting embarrassed by my Grandfather at Bempton Cliffs, he asked one of the RSPB wardens if there was any good shooting up there. I've no pics of my own I could show you but there's plenty by other people such as this:

Went up in a single seater yesterday: The band on the horizon is an inversion, as a result there was hardly any useable lift to climb higher in and my longest flight of the day was just 16 minutes.
